Like many of my peers, I spent the first part of my career working at some of the world’s leading global investment management and private banks. During 16 years, I had the privilege of working alongside exceptional colleagues, gaining invaluable experience, and supporting sophisticated clients with complex financial affairs. However, over time, I became increasingly frustrated with the constraints of traditional client service models.
Like much of the wealth and investment management industry, these institutions may offer vast resources – but they are often also burdened by short-term sales targets, product-driven incentives, oversized compliance departments created to deal with historic mismanagement, and a rigid corporate structure that limits the ability to truly tailor solutions for clients. I found that genuine client relationships were too often overshadowed by commercial pressures and bureaucracy, which ultimately limited the quality of advice and service.
So, in 2016, I left the world of large financial institutions to set up a single-family office which supported the personal ambitions of a founder as well as his insurance company. The aim was to build something that was entirely aligned with my client’s needs both as an individual and institution. The experience was transformative. It showed me what wealth management could and should be: holistic, client-first, and at liberty to consider every aspect of financial life without a sales-driven agenda.
That initial single-family office soon evolved into something larger. I saw the opportunity of bringing this approach to more clients who were looking for a strategic partner rather than a product-focused advisor. This was the genesis of Hundle – a multi-family practice designed to offer the single-family office experience to a broader range of clients, from private individuals to large institutions.
